Jack Harlow Celebrates 28th Birthday With New Album 'Monica'
Jack Harlow rang in 28 by giving himself — and the rest of us — a birthday present. His fourth studio album, 'Monica', arrived March 13 via Warner Music, ending a nearly three-year gap since his last full-length project and opening what feels like a distinctly new chapter for the Louisville-bred rapper.
The album was recorded at Electric Lady Studios, the legendary Greenwich Village facility originally built by Jimi Hendrix and home to sessions from everyone from Stevie Wonder to Frank Ocean. It's a fitting backdrop for Harlow's first project since relocating from Louisville, Kentucky to New York City — a move that seems to have reshaped both his surroundings and his creative approach.
The collaborator list alone hints at a wider sonic ambition. Robert Glasper, the genre-blurring jazz pianist and producer, sits alongside R&B artists Ravyn Lenae and Omar Apollo on the feature credits. Louisville R&B vocalist James Savage also makes an appearance, keeping Harlow's hometown ties intact even as he plants new roots. Behind the boards, the production roster runs deep: Aksel Arvid, Jermaine Paul, Clay Harlow, Angel 'BabeTruth' Lopez, and Hollywood Cole all contributed.
“Harlow first broke through in a major way with the 2020 smash 'Whats Poppin', and he's been steadily building since.”
Harlow first broke through in a major way with the 2020 smash 'Whats Poppin', and he's been steadily building since. His 2023 album 'Jackman' peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and hit No. 1 on Billboard's Top Rap Albums chart, earning him some of the strongest critical reception of his career. He kept things relatively low-key after that, resurfacing most recently with 'Just Us', a Doja Cat collaboration that dropped earlier in March 2025.
'Monica' feels like the product of that quieter stretch — an album made with intention rather than obligation. The combination of a storied recording space, an eclectic guest list, and a fresh city suggests Harlow isn't interested in repeating formulas. Whether that translates to chart dominance or a more niche critical win remains to be seen.
First-week numbers will tell one story. But the more interesting thing to watch is whether 'Monica' marks a genuine artistic shift or just a change of scenery. If the Electric Lady magic rubbed off, Harlow might be heading somewhere we haven't heard him go before.
